Hi all,
Its been sometime since my last post now.. Actually i get most of my ideas while i
am driving to and from office. Again there is an "issue" regarding whether am
i right in saying "driving" or not since i ride a bike.. so in the real sense its "riding" only... but driving comes automatically while writing.. so please dont assume otherwise unless specified.. fuuh..
Last night i was watching the match between Federer and Muller, a US Open quarter final match.. needless to say i am a big Federer fan... Eventually Federer prevailed but not before a hard fought match was in offing...
So, coming to the issue why i like Federer so much.. I think my reasoning goes beyond how good a player is. I dunno about others but my liking of a player sub consciously also counts the type of person one is on as well as off the court..Over the period of time the type of humility and gentlemanship shown by Federer is remarkable... Its very easy to be lost in the fanfare and glitterings when you are on the top.. But to remain groundfooted is an Herculean task..
I dunno whether its right to judge a sportsperosn on these parameters or not...But I do judge like that only..
Coming to another sports ie. F1.. more than i liked Schumacher, i hated Alonso... No denying the fact Alonso was a great driver and even world champion at that time.. But the way he handelled himself was not which u like much.. Many a times he came out like a sore loser.. Although Schumacher also had his share ov controversies.. but the way he handled himself in his last season was really nice. Alonso episode was more evident in the next season when he had to compete with his own team mate Hamilton...
Now, coming to the greatest sportsperson (in my humble opinion), which India has produced ie. Vishy Anand.. After a loooong time Chess has an undisputed world champion in Vishy. He took India to a different level altogether on teh world arena.. The same respect is shown to Indian players now, which was only reserved for Russians at one point of time.. But may be because of the nature of the sports he has not got the type of response which is reserved for a World Champion. But nevertheless, his commitment to spread the popularity of the game has not taken a back seat. And many of the new creed take inspiration from him... i only wished had chess been a sports in Olympics , we might have got that untill now eluding gold long back!!!!!
So, enough for today.. we might take up this topic some other time as well..
Happy Reading!!!
